Walking from MaxHotel, I found a space where everything feels considered. The vegetarian meals are simple and nourishing. The light Kintamani Tubruk coffee allows the beans' character to shine without bitterness. The Japanese cheesecake is humble but perfect, I quietly ordered a second slice because it was just that good. The open-air setting, with no A/C, lets you truly settle in. Time slows down here. I spent a morning at the adjacent silver workshop for a 2.5-hour class, and breaking for coffee and a light bite in between felt like part of the creative rhythm. What moved me most was the sense of community. Using the WiFi to work for a bit, I witnessed locals and creators mingling easily. The Sunday market is special: local Japanese residents, who warmly speak Indonesian, offer their homegrown vegetables and handmade snacks. It feels less like a market and more like a shared gathering. This isn't a place you simply visit; it's a place you experience and become part of, even briefly. I left not just with beautiful memories, but with their wonderful white miso paste, now a staple in my kitchen to remember the taste of that calm, connected atmosphere. I will return for the quiet, the coffee, and the sincere sense of place.

We went to Kafe Topi and had udon, taco rice (homage to Okinawa?), papaya salad and sake cheese cake. What a delicious discovery! After days of eating unique and tasty West Sumatran dishes in Bukit Tinggi and Padang we were ready for a change. Satoru and Naomi were welcoming. Having travelled and lived in Japan we savored the authenticity of the meal. The sake cheese cake is a MUST after-meal treat!

Lovely place for Japan lovers! There's a mini library with so many original Japanese comics. The owner is a family from Japan, they're really kind and friendly. Lots of Japanese come over here. They manage a weekly Sunday market.
